Phuket Weather

Mostly sunny and a big thunderstorm

The weather lover doesn't find too much to get excited about at this time of year in Phuket. The phrase "mostly sunny" aka "partly cloudy" comes to mind. You can be sure of hot days, some light winds, occasional stonger winds (good for sailing - the annual King's Cup Regatta finished this weekend), and not much in the way of rain. For the thousands of tourists in Phuket right now, that's good news. Tourists don't want rain. We're heading into peak season now, between mid December and mid January. Today was a busy day at the dive shop and a hot one too. A sprinkling of very light rain fell a few minutes ago.

Yesterday we had plans and (not common for this time of year) they were somewhat scuppered by a huge thunderstorm. We did manage to visit Phuket Aquarium, always good for the kids, but just as we left the skies darkened, the wind did blow and the rain fell as if the sky itself was crashing to earth. I kid thee not, that was a big storm, even if it only lasted 20 minutes. So plans for a meal at the beach were washed out. We stopped at Makro in the pouring rain to buy some fresh fish (Makro is good for fresh produce).
