Webcam at Catch Beach Club, Surin Beach, Phuket

There are a few webcams on the Phuket weather blog. I have meant to add this webcam for a while now, it often shows great sunsets looking west over the Andaman Sea from the Catch Beach Club at Surin Beach which is used by guests from the Twin Palms Resort, but is open to all. I added this webcam in 2010. There has been quite a change in 2014, with Catch Beach Club being removed (along with all other businesses built on the sand). They still have a building on the east side of the beach road but for now the view from the webcam is just palm trees, sand, sea and sky! Lovely!

Here it is - Surin Beach Phuket Webcam:

If you can't see it here: original web cam here on the Twin Palms Resort website or check the Karon Beach Webcam.

Surin Beach has got more developed over the years with lots of villas, nice hotels and luxury houses in the hills. The beach itself is still quiet compared to the main Phuket Beaches and despite the development you still have small restaurants along the beachfront doing inexpensive Thai food, though it is pretty crowded in high season. Still, many of the hotels are quite exclusive so you can escape to your own private fantasy world!

Hi Jamie,

Your weather blog is great, just wondering about your advice when choosing between travelling in late july or late october. I thought the last week of the 'low season' in october might be a good bet to travel in, with rain and wind easing and the seas being calmer, but had read too about july being very good also. Just looked back at your archives for July 09 and got a bit worried though that we could end up with days on end of rain and wind...what's your recommendation?

Thanks.

Lauren

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

Hi Lauren,

Ooh - a tricky one! July IS low season, winds can be strong from the west, beaches likely to be rough. End of October is normally better, yes you might get plenty of rain, but it's way more likely that you wll have calmer seas, wth rain coming in burts/thunderstorms that don't really affect your holiday - in July you will get some sun, maybe lots of sun, but you can also get bands of rain and wind that come from the west for 2 - 3 days at a time. In summary - end of October will be better in my opinion. If you need anything else, do let me now!

Jamie

hi there Jamie...im coming to Phuket mid April with a friend...is this normally around the hottest time of year??...any chance of rain then do you think??.. thanks judy

March 19, 2010

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

Hi Judith,

Yes, mid April is the hottest time of year. Songkran, the Thai New Year is celebrated on the 13th - see Songkran 2009 Photos. There is normally some rain in April, mostly in the form of brief heavy thunderstorms - have a look at the archives on this blog for an idea of April weather - here's April 2009.

Cheers!

Jamie.

I am thinking of travelling to Phuket in mid September to beginning of October for a relaxing beach holiday, but now I look into the weather I am worried that this will be the worst time to travel there. What are your thoughts?

Burt

May 24, 2010

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

Well Burt, on average September and October are the wettest months of the year. Wind likely to be making for heavy surf at the beaches, but not always. Later in October is better as the winds should have switched by then, sea will be calmer.

Blogger K86 :

hello,

Im coming to bangkok on friday and planning on coming to phuket on monday for some sun! ive been looking at the web cams over the past few weeks and karon always seems to be cloudy and surin sunny! surin seems out of our price range but karon seems to have good prices for the hotels. can you suggest some nice area maybe nearer surin which is a bit cheaper, or maybe some sunny spots around phuket? (we dont want to stay in patong)
Also the exchange rate in england for TB is not too good at the moment, around 46tb to the £. is it better in phuket?

thanks
K.

June 14, 2010

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

Hi K86,

I don't think Surin Beach is sunnier than Karon, but the webcam faces due west so gets more light - the Karon Webcam is facing North normally. If you want a bit cheaper, try Kamala Beach - it's between Patong and Surin.

Hotels at Kamala Beach

Local exchange rate for the UK Pound around 47. Yes, not good at all!

Hi Jamie
My wife and 4 year old are planning to come to Thailand for a week, about end of June. Our Thai friend said the waves and rain in Phuket are likely to be too rough for a our young boy, but Samet and Samui had less activities for a family so we are back to thinking about Phuket.
Do you expect any better weather by end of this month ?
Does the East side of the island have the same degree of swell / weather as the usually more popular West side ?
Any recommendations of a family friendly beach, even under the current weather conditions ?
thanks

I am coming to Phuket on thursday morning 17 of oktober and we are landing in Bangkok first just to change airplane. The problem is that i saw that a storm is heading towards Phuket.Have you heard something aboat that? Kind regards Nina,Sweden

October 04, 2010

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

Hi Nina,

I don't think there is any way to predict that a storm is coming on the 17th, which is 12 days from now. WHERE did you see this information?

Hi Jamie,

Your site is a life saver! I'm coming over on the 15th of November, and lately, the weather has been looking um...not so good. Please keep blogging! I'm so worried about being rained in while we're there. Please tell me it wont happen :)

November 03, 2010

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

It won't happen.

Hi Jaimie
My husband and I are planning a trip to HK, Cambodia and thailand, ending off in Phuket by late Nov. With the intention of just laying on the beach for 3-4 days. Worried we may still hit rainy season. What are your thoughts?
Thanks
Colleen

Anonymous Anonymous :

Hi Jamie,

I am in the same boat as anonymous and arriving on 16th November for 5 days, the extended forecast shows that there will be thunderstorm/showers everyday and despite all bookings I am thinking of cancellation and going to Pattaya. I would appreciate if you can help me make a decision as I also do not want a complete wash out (occasional showers are okay though)

November 09, 2010

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

Forecasts are wrong, they always say "chance of a thunderstorm". Today - sunny again - head to the home page for latest updates, check the webcam to see the sun! November is not rainy season but that does not mean there is no rain, it's not like God turns off a tap or something :) But anyway, weather will not disrupt your plans unless you are allergic to sunlight :)

November 09, 2010

Blogger Marit :

Wow...thanks Jamie :) I also saw the forecasts and its all rain... and then I found your site. I will arrive to Phuket with friends next week or so... Now I will keep an eye on the webcams and your site. Really cool you are doing this :)

Blogger Lai :

Thanks for webcam! we will be here on Nov 25 and the morning of 26. looking for some nice weather :)

BTW, are there inexpensive food den around that you recommend? we stay at Manthai.

Cheers,

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

Hi Lai, sure weather will be good for you :)

Surin beach has some small restaurants around, yes, which will be much cheaper than anything at the nice hotels!

Hi Jamie, we are flying out on next wednesday for our honeymoonis the weather suppose to be hot hot hot or raining again not sure whether to change our honeymoon?

March 29, 2011

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

By next week will be all sunshine again and people will be moaning that it's too hot! The rain we're getting now is very unusual for March - this is the wettest March I have known since I got here in 1999.

Hi Jamie, We are going to Karon Beach d.9. April and we are very worried concerning the weather. I just read that you promise sun next week - Which forecast is the most reliable? We have tried a lot, but they all give different forecasts. I really hope that the rain will stop falling soon...
Best regards Randi, Dk

March 29, 2011

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

I don't "promise" - weather is not under my control :)

But I am pretty sure the current bad weather will go away and it will be sunny next week :)

So what about the weather will be During Easter 23-29 April 2011
On the weather forecast it show rain but i see web cams and its sunny
So rain happening usually overnight or just a little bit during the day?

April 20, 2011

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

Hi Anonymous - you have just learned an important lesson.. the weather forecasts are generally wrong. Today (20th) is hot and sunny. There may be some rain now and then, normally short thunderstorms, or might be a bit cloudy all day. Normal weather for end of April. If you are unlucky, weather might turn a bit wet, but I hope not as I am on holiday until the 29th :)

Hi Jamie,

Great website!! Very helpful. My family and I will be spending our summer vacation in Phuket this August. Please keep the sun around for us. How is the sea condition during that time of the year? Hoping that we could daytrip out to Phi Phi. Thanks.

Hi Jamie,

So glad to have found your very informative weather blog,I don't expect an absolute prophecy but what do you think about Surin beach next August 2012..Looking to have a lazy beach holiday, not a surfer or a swimmer, but wind and storms can spoil the fun...plan to stay at Twin Palms....what do you think.

Cheers Robyn.

July 30, 2011

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

Well.... August is low season, as you know... so you can expect some wet days, some sunny days and some wind, and Surin beach can have some big waves, not ideal if you plan to go swimming .... stick to the hotel pool if the waves are big... Twin Palms is certainly a very nice hotel and Surin is good if you want to be away from the busier beaches.

Hi Jamie!
we're going to Phuket for the first time. We will be there August 28 to November 12.
what weather can we expect? we will be close to Rawai Beach and do not know if there is any difference in location to location in Phuket.
How is the water at the time and temperature of the water and air and how it is usually with the rain?

Hope that int is for stupid questions but it is very curious because we are a group of three adults and three children, so the weather is important to us:)

Grateful for answers Krystian

September 07, 2011

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

In general no difference in weather between different areas, except that rain showers can be very isolated. It might rain in Rawai but not in Karon beach, or vice versa. My general advice - don't worry about the weather. Temperature will be 30C and higher, water temp just under 30C. Enjoy your trip!

Jamie Hi !
Fantastic blog, many thanks! A quick question which you might have had many times before :) I am planning a trip between 4-9 Nov 2011 to Phuket and is there any way that I can predict how it will be like, sunny or rainy? I assume the month of October - how it is going now - can make you say something? Many thanks pal ! Murat from Istanbul

October 10, 2011

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

Hi Murat,

Well, early November can still have some rain, but on average better than October, nothing to really worry about. Every day is a new day. Enjoy it!

Hi Jamie
your blog is fantastic. i love phuket too. planning to go over there again in mid of Nov'11. would you kindly advise if patong is flooding or not? rainy is ok as long as it is not flooding because it may interrupts all the activities then. how abt the people's traffic? is it too crowded or just ok?
look forward for your kind response.
thanks/siti from malaysia

The whole idea of having webcams on the blog is that you do not have to ask "how is the weather?" = Look at the webcam!!

3rd week of May likely to be wet and windy. Or might be sunny, or just cloudy or somewhere in between. It will be low season by then with winds blowing from the west....

Hi Jame - thank you so much for your webcam. We are thinking to come to Surin in April but just worried abit about the waters. Last year around the same period, we were in Koh Samui and although the waters looked great - blue and inviting, the bottom of the sea bed was filled with sea weed/algae. Do you think thats common?
I really am looking for crystal clear waters and hoping that Surin will be the place?

Thank you
Dina

March 16, 2014

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

"Crystal clear waters" is one of those cliche travel phrases along with "palm fringed beaches" and "sun drenched". The sea off the west coast of Phuket on a good day if it's not windy, is very very nice .. but if you want the waters you seek, I suggest a day trip to Koh Tachai Island.

We are booked to come to Phuket in late June, hope the weather holds for us....just wondering with the political unrest and has it affected the Patong area and should we reconsider?

Hi John,

Political unrest has never affected Phuket .. I have been here nearly 15 years and remember the last coup in 2006. Nothing happened and nothing changed in Phuket. Cheers!

hi Jamie - love this blog, thanks so much for all the info! We're booked to arrive in Phuket 22nd Sept until early October but am getting worried that we'll be rained in - how much does it rain actually and will it be grey every day? Is the humidity unbearable enough to stop you in your tracks? thanks!

July 03, 2014

Blogger Jamie Monk in Phuket :

Hi - in theory you are coming at the wettest time of year (on average). But every year is different and while you are likely to get rainy days, don't be too worried. Likely to be some very nice sunny days too. I hope so because you will be here during the amazing Phuket Vegetarian Festival and I want to get some nice photos :)
