The end of a long March

I've had a very restful day today. I normally see Phuket Town (now officially called Phuket City) as a place I must go for things like immigration or work permit renewal or shopping, but today I decided to be a tourist (for the sake of the blog) and just wander the streets in the old part of town..streets like Dibuk road, Thalang Road, Soi Rommani, Phang Nga road...and do you know, it was rather enjoyable. Some of the back roads are very quiet, full of old houses, little shops and cafes, Chinese families (most with money..lots of Mercs and 4x4's parked outside these old houses). I have added a section onto Jamie's Phuket about Old Phuket Town.

Oh, the weather...today has been hot and sunny. I greatly enjoyed the refreshing lemon soda I had at a little restaurant called "Natural Farm" on Soi Rommani.

Here's a photo of the old clock tower which you find in the centre of the traffic circle at the junction of Montri road, Phuket Road and Soi Taling Chan.

The end of a long March

The prodigal sun returns...

This week... I have mostly been eating... pizza. Pizza Company has a 2-for-1 offer, too good to refuse. And the sun has been shining every day, glorious weather with just a few dashes of rain a couple of evenings. Hot and sunny, just what the doctor ordered, and normal for March. There has been some wind blowing too, a cooling breeze from the Northeast.

Hey! Some Rain!

Been a long week...I was rather ill in midweek and the days dragged on...but the weather has at least offered some change. Enough of this dull sunshine! Be gone ye blue skies! Well, Thursday, Friday and Saturday all had some rain, mostly in the evening..dark clouds gathered, winds rose and the heavens opened... a normal tropical weather event after a period of heat and humidity. See photo below taken yesterday evening in Karon.

Today started very quietly....the land covered in mist...slowly the sun has burned through to leave a glorious sunny afternoon.

Hey! Some Rain!

Did someone say "rain"?

My wife said there was some rain on our house a couple of days ago, though in Karon, some 10 kilometers away there was no sign of anything but heat. We've had a few hazy days..the kind of days when the heat is hot, you start to pray for rain..clouds appear and disappear. March is normally very dry, and I even read somewhere that water restrictions might be applied. We were up at Bang Wad reservoir about a week ago and the water level looked very healthy for this time of year.

Certainly great scuba diving weather at the moment. I have to accept that I am kind of tied to the office now, but do hope to get some dives soon. Maybe next weekend.

This evening we had a drink and a snack at the Beach Bar near the Novotel Cape Panwa. One of our current fave places to relax.

March marches on...

As we enter what I like to call "mid March", the sunny weather shows no sign of letting up. The heat is hot ...

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound

I digress... I am now back in charge of my old weather page at Sunrise Divers - see Sunrise Divers weather page. So, now there's another regular update to keep an eye on.

Here's a cool photo I took on Sunday... (Sunday was a hot day, by the way):

Phuket Weather March 8th - Sun

The sun continues, relentless, unforgiving, silent, staring into our souls. It's been a hot week, blue skies most of the time, though Sunday was a bit hazy. We found the heat a bit much on Saturday, gave up the idea of hiring a boat at Rawai beach and just went for a swim instead. On Sunday we drove to Phang Nga and rented a longtail boat for a few hours around Phang Nga Bay - this is an absolute must for all visitors unless you hate beautiful scenery. The whole week has been hot, and a busy one. I changed colours this week and started working (again) at Sunrise Divers in Karon beach. If you want to dive, let me know!

Phuket Weather March 8th - Sun

1st March - More sun for Phuket

The week has once again zipped by. The sun has been shining most of the time, a great week if you like sunbathing, a great week to be here. My mother has been enjoying the chance to relax, though I have been working most of the week. However, I am now between jobs, and have 4 days before starting the new one. In the next few days we intend to make the most of the time off, visit some islands and hire a boat to see Phang Nga Bay. Yesterday we drove up to the North West of the island to Naithon Beach, stopping off at Kamala Beach to visit Kamala temple.
